1. What is an excess?

An excess (or deductable) is the first part of any claim that an insured person has to  pay, usually a £65 excess is applicable per person per claim for losses relating to personal baggage, money, medical expenses, cancellation, curtailment, missed departure and wintersports equipment.

2.What is the single article limit?

In the event of a personal effects claim for items of high value, the maximum amount that can be paid for a given item is £250. This figure is calculated after applying a deduction for wear and tear, then the policy excess. If the figure still exceeds the single article limit, then the limit is paid.

3. Does Atlas ANNUAL MULTI-TRIP cover individual trips beyond 31 days?

Refer to annual policies at a maximum duration of 60 days per trip.

Atlas provides cover for non-hazardous, office based work abroad. Whilst we cannot stop you from engaging in manual work, cover is not provided for manual work or operations or any dangerous activity during the course of work. NB: You are not covered for the success or otherwise of the business undertaken during the business trip, and no liability is accepted for decisions or agreements during the course of that business.

Children can be covered when travelling alone, but the full adult rate is payable.

6. Up to what age does the child rate apply?

For Atlas Single Trip Insurance:  Under 18 at date of travel.

9. Am I covered to travel by motorcycle?

Up to 500cc, but we can endorse the policy to cover up to 1100cc. Please contact us if required.

10. Do I have to pay my medical bills abroad?

If it is a small claim for medicines or minor treatment, you should pay and claim. Larger claims can be billed direct to the insurer, subject to you contacting the emergency contact number at the time of the emergency and payment of the policy excess if applicable. If your condition is serious, exceeds £500.00 in value or requires in patient treatment, you should contact the 24hr Medical Emergency Service - details are contained in the policy document.

11. When does cancellation cover commence?

Cancellation cover commences immediately after the travel insurance policy has been accepted and the relevant premium paid and ends upon your departure from the UK.

12. What if I wish to cancel my policy/Is there a cooling off period?

A refund of the premium can be allowed only within the first 14 days of the policy being taken out, or before your travel (whichever is sooner) if the policy does not meet your requirements. You cannot cancel your policy and receive a refund of premium after the 14 days or if you travel.

13. Do you insure people aged 66 years and over?

The maximum age limit is 75 in our website, please contact Atlas if you are over 75.

15. Is there a limit to the number of days I can be abroad on an annual policy?

All annual multi-trip policies limit the number of days you can spend abroad on any one trip and we offer 3 variations: 31, 45, 60 days per trip.

Unlike many other annual policies, we do not restrict the total number of days you can spend abroad during the year so you are free to travel as many times in the year as you wish. As an example, any of our annual policies would be appropriate for the frequent traveller who might take 20 trips abroad

 16. Do the annual policies cover ski and snowboarding trips?

Yes, but you are limited to 17 days per annum.

17. Can I ski and snowboard off-piste?

Yes, provided that you are accompanied by a qualified guide or instructor.

18. Do the annual policies cover UK travel?

Yes, all our annual policies offer cover within the UK providing your trip is for one or more nights in pre-booked accommodation. This cover is not designed to be used whilst staying with friends or relatives in the UK.

19. Do the worldwide annual policies cover the USA?

Our worldwide annual policies cover you to any destination, anywhere and do include cover for USA.

20. Can I include my grandchildren on an annual policy?

Yes, but not a 'family' basis, they would be treated as individuals

21. As an annual policyholder, do I need to contact you each time I travel?

No, you are free to travel as and when you wish - there is no requirement to contact us unless you feel we can be of assistance with your journey or unless you need to declare medical conditions.

22. Is it possible to extend the trip limit on the annual policies?

The trip limits on our annual policies are 31, 45, 60 days are fixed.

23. If I take an annual policy for Europe can I upgrade to Worldwide at a later date?

No upgrades are available.

24. Can I pay an excess waiver premium?

The excess waiver premium waives all excesses on the policies and can be calculated using the check box "excess waiver" on our Instant Quote. Please note the additional premium is calculated on a per person basis, with a 50% discount for children, and must be applied to everyone insured on the policy schedule

25. Can I extend an individual trip policy from abroad if I decide to stay longer?

We can extend an individual trip policy providing you let us know BEFORE your policy expires and at the time of requesting the extension you are not intending to make a claim. Policies can be extended on a weekly or monthly basis. Many of our clients have found this feature useful when they have been travelling abroad 'backpacking' and decided to stay a little longer

26. Do you cover hazardous sports?

We offer cover for the vast majority of activities. To check whether any activity is covered at standard rates, requires an additional premium or is excluded from cover, please refer toHazardous Activities . If you require cover for an activity which requires an additional premium please go to Instant Quote or telephone us on 0870 811 1777 or email us detailing your destination, duration of stay and activity to be covered. Whilst some sports/activities are free, please ask that your policy be endorsed to show the additional cover.

27. Do you offer instant cover?

Whether you contact us by telephone or use the on-line purchase facility on this web site, we can offer you immediate cover (we've lost count of the number of people who have bought insurance from us by telephone while sitting in a departure lounge!). The only stipulation is that you must purchase your insurance before leaving the UK - we can offer cover for UK residents at any point through out the trip, provided that there are no pending claims.

28. Am I covered to drive a car in USA?

The policy provides cover under the medical, personal accident, and personal possessions sections of the policy, but there is no liability cover provided whilst driving a car or other mechanically propelled vehicle. This is an industry-standard clause and is designed to ensure travel insurance policies do not have the effect (nor charge the premium) of motor policies.

29. If I am hiring a car in USA, how can I ensure I have adequate liability cover?

Check with the car hire company exactly how much third party liability cover is provided. Some car rental companies only provide the legislated state minimum; this varies between states and can be as low as $10,000. We recommend you have at least $2,000,000 third party liability cover - you can purchase further cover if it is not included as standard either from your car rental company or other insurance provider. This product is generically known as "top-up liability" cover. If you are due to depart in the near future, please bear in mind that this policy is for motor insurance and insurers will require a signed application form before they will issue cover.

30. If I have an all risks household contents policy can I get a discount?

Yes a discount is available, either ask one of our sales executives or if arranging cover online, please check the "delete personal possessions/personal money" box on the Instant Quote. Please note that this option has to be applied to all persons insured on the policy.

31. Can children be insured if they are travelling on their own?

When the child is insured as a member of a family on one of our annual multi-trip policies, they have to be accompanied by one of the insured adults on the policy.

32. Is scuba diving covered?

We cover scuba diving up to 30m (100ft) at no additional premium. Please ensure that you ask that your policy be endorsed to show the additional cover, as some countries will not allow you to dive without it.

33. Is Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) included in the prices shown?

All prices quoted include IPT at 17.5%.

34. Should I take an E111 form?

We recommend that you and anyone travelling with you to Europe obtain an E111 form from your local Post Office before travelling, together with the Advice to Travellers booklet.. We will not deduct the excess from medical claims where your claim is reduced because of the use of an E111 form or any other reciprocal health arrangement.

35. What equipment is covered on wintersports trips?

Where the appropriate additional premium is paid, ski equipment is defined as your skis, poles, boots, bindings or snowboards

36. Do you offer a pre-travel help line?

We do not offer a pre-travel help line, but please view the travel advice and web links on the home page.

37. If I take my golf clubs on my journey, how much are they insured for?

Unfortunately, no cover is provided for golf clubs.

39. What is a "pre-existing medical condition"?

Any health/medical condition that has existed, been diagnosed, treated, known about or which has been or is currently under investigation prior to the start date of the policy. You must declare medical conditions to us as you arrange your cover or if the conditions develop or worsen prior to departure, by contacting Atlas Healthcheck.

40. Is the cover per person or per policy?

The benefits detailed on the Summary of Coverage for each insured person  named on the policy schedule. For annual policies the benefits for each insured person effectively refresh at the beginning of each journey so the complete range of policy benefits are available every time you travel. (Please note that the Personal Accident and Personal Money benefits are reduced for children). However, by the same token, the policy excesses with apply on an individual basis in the event of a claim.

41. Do you insure people with pre-existing medical conditions?

Yes, we are able to cover the vast majority of pre-existing medical conditions under our various policies without an additional premium loading, however, some conditions may excluded or require payment of an additional premium. If you have a medical condition for which you require cover we will need to discuss this with you so please telephone us on 0870 787 6683 between 09:30 and 17:30 hours, Monday to Saturday.

42. Are Pregnant Women covered by Insurance Cover?

Yes, we can cover pregnancy up to the 10 weeks before due date.

43. Who qualifies as a UK resident?

A United Kingdom resident is a person who has resided in the UK for at least 3 months and is entitled to NHS benefits.

44. Are One Way Trips covered?

Yes, but all cover ceases as soon as you pass Immigration Control at your final destination. In respect of Curtailment cover, you will be returned to the UK or your final destination, whichever is closer.

45. Are my belongings covered whilst in my car?

Items are only covered in certain circumstances - please refer to the policy wording. In any event money, cash and valuables are not covered whilst in an unattended motor vehicle.

In the incident occurred in your accommodation/grounds, the matter must also be reported to the Hotel/Tour rep. In the case of losses involving the carrier, a property irregularity report must be obtained.

47. Can I increase my cancellation cover?
